Uploads Open Beta Update

Since launching the Uploads Open Beta back at TwitchCon, you’ve given us some great feedback that has helped us track down a few bugs and improve the service. We’ve been listening carefully, and the team has been hard at work tackling those issues and incorporating your feedback.

We recently rolled out a handful of changes and wanted to give you an update on what has been added and improved since launch.

  • Watch videos without interruption. We fixed an issue that caused some videos to restart just before they ended.

  • See more accurate search results for uploads thanks to longer tags. Higher character limits will let you tag your videos with long game titles and event names that were previously cut off. Tag character limits are now 100 for individual tags and 500 overall.

  • Streamline your uploading with expanded file extension support. You can now upload .MOV, .AVI and .FLV files encoded in H264, in addition to .MP4 videos.

  • Give users a better preview of your video. Custom thumbnails should no longer reset to a default image or disappear if they’re added to a video while it’s uploading. You’ll also see the correct thumbnail choice when you embed your uploads.

  • Help viewers find language-specific uploads more easily with an update to the default language setting. The language on your uploaded videos now defaults to your site-wide language setting, saving you a step in the uploading process.

The team is also working on a few more highly requested features and improvements that are coming soon:

  • Share more about your uploads with formatting options for video descriptions. You’ll be able to add formatted links, and use bold and italics to help your descriptions pop.

  • Find uploads faster with improvements to video discovery. A separate row of recent uploads will be added to the Videos tab on channel pages and the Following directory.

Of course, there are still a few things we’re not ready to share just yet. We told you when we launched Uploads that new engagement features for uploads are a top priority, and that hasn’t changed. Those features are currently being planned, in part, based on feedback that the Twitch Community has shared directly with the uploads product team. So please keep your feedback coming!

You can visit the Uploads Product Forum to share product ideas and vote on ideas from other users and swing by the Uploads Curse Server to chat with other other users and the occasional member of the product team. We want to make it easy for every user to have a voice in how we continue to build uploads, so you can also find links to both of those sites on the uploads section of your Video Manager on Twitch.

We can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
