Animal Week Is Very Good, Yes It Is
Wherever you go, there they are. Playing, sitting, smelling, napping, squirming, squealing, swimming, inhabiting uninhibited joy, sloth, or mania — whatever animals are doing, they’re extremely good. They’re so good, in fact, that they’ve weaseled into Twitch in a big way. And it’s time we showed our animal friends some love as a community.
But first, look at this:
Historically, animal streams run across a variety of categories: ASMR, Travel & Outdoors, Just Chatting, Science & Technology, Music and Pools, and Hot Tubs & Beaches. The time has come to give our animal friends, and the people who — literally — love to see them, a good home. That’s correct, we’re launching an Animal category to kick off Animal Week on Twitch.
Introducing: Animals, Aquariums, and Zoos
Dedicating a space to our wonderful companions isn’t just a morale booster — it’s an exciting way to elevate the importance of environmental and conservation issues facing these critters of varying sizes and origin. We’re working with zoos, aquariums, and animal non-profits to elevate the animals, their conservation, and the restoration and conservation of the environment they need to thrive. If you’re a zoo, aquarium, or animal non-profit interested in getting started on Twitch, you can reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Obviously, there are the many Very Good animal friends we love to watch, but this category takes advantage of being live as well. Some of our favorites incorporate wonderful Twitch-y elements allowing you to interact with your friends.
Want to feed the ducks? Head to /DashDucks to enjoy feathered friends in their natural habitat and feed them by using Bits.
Want to vibe with turtles? Of course you do. /TurtlesAndChill promises exactly that with the ability to cater the vibe by adjusting the lights or changing the song.
Unlock Animal Hype Train Emotes
Can you imagine launching an adorable category without equally adorable emotes? That’d be otterly ridiculous.
Ready up those Bits and Subs because, starting today, these Hype Train emotes will be available to unlock across all channels. Ducks, dogs, cats, hippos, owls — all of our favs expressing the range of emotions Twitch makes us feel.
When to Watch
To properly launch the Animals category, we’re curating some of our favorite animal channels for a lineup of pure, unleashed, in-your-face animal friends. Check out the schedule below to see what’s going on and when (all times Pacific):
Supporting The Animals IRL
A crucial part of Animal Week is supporting animals and their environments. Here are some ways you can ensure the present and future enjoyment of animal hijinks.
Best Friends Animal Society - saving the lives of cats and dogs all across America while helping others find a forever home.
Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary - bring some tranquillity to the Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary, a charity helping endangered British Wild Hedgehogs in need.
Monterey Bay Aquarium - support their mission of ocean conservation.
WolfConservationCenter- protect and preserve pawsitively wonderful wolves in North America.
Monkeying around on stream is always a good time, and doing it for charity can make the experience even more rewarding. Not sure if you’re koalafied? Head over to our Creator Camp on Charity Streaming to prepare for your first charity stream.
Sometimes the first step towards making a difference is having open, educational conversations. Those conversations are easier when you have resources. So, here are some links detailing why protecting the animals of the world is important and how it affects us all:
Animal Week is a celebration of the joy and life animals provide. We’re thrilled. We’re saying ‘awww’ a lot. We’re full of warm, fuzzy feelings that the Animals category simply refuses to stop delivering. And we’re excited to share it with you.
